This paper seeks to discuss the importance of respect in the military. Importance of respect. Being a soldier in the army means understanding the Seven Core Army Values and living up to them. Some of these include respect, loyalty and honor. Having respect means treating someone as he or she should be treated. The people in the army are expected to treat each other with respect. They do this.
Army Values received their impetus from the Army’s Character Development XXI initiative and have been part of the initial-entry training scene since July 1998, when dogtags and thousands of posters representing loyalty, duty, respect, selfless-service, honor, integrity and personal courage (the seven core Army Values) were distributed worldwide to the field down to company level. In the ground forces values altruistic service is giving your all for a higher or even lower power and thought of person or something other so your ain. To me altruistic service is the pattern of giving without anticipating anything in return. Another ground forces value is honor. Honor is in my position the biggest thing to me. In the ground forces value award is moving out each of the value.

Honor is a matter of carrying out, acting, and living the values of respect, duty, loyalty, selfless service, integrity and personal courage in everything you do. Integrity Do what’s right, legally and morally. Integrity is a quality you develop by adhering to moral principles. It requires that you do and say nothing that deceives others. As your integrity grows, so does the trust others.

On day one of basic training, trainees have to live up to many expectations and guidelines such as the Army's Creed, the Warrior Ethos and the Army Values.
